Just a quick post to share my horoscope for the day: "Your internal music comes flooding out. Others are amazed and delighted by your song, so expect to leave a lasting impression on everyone you meet. While you're not usually such a social butterfly, this is your time to be in the limelight."
Maybe by "internal music", it means the stuff we recorded this past weekend. Yeah, that's it. Get ready, Louisville. ;)
Er, actually,
hard drives were rolling this weekend. We went in the studio Saturday night about 9:30 and left around 4:30 or so. Thanks to Kent O'Bryan @ Logan Street Studio for spending 2 very late nights with the Debauchery crew. You make us sound professional!
Overall, we had a GREAT session. We didn't get a chance to record the 3 songs we had hoped but got 2 of them nailed
down. They sound great! If we don't get picked for the Louisville is for Lovers comp, it's rigged, I tells ya,
RIGGED. (Hope you're reading this Mr. King)
We all played really well for the first time recording together as a fresh new band. I was impressed by everyone's talent. It's weird hearing everything the way it's meant to be heard for the first time. The basement doesn't do our sound justice (do they ever?). There were parts that Damien played that wowed me. Just because I can never hear every note @ practice. And what? Our songs have actual
words?? It's nice hearing Mr. Shalenko's lovely voice. Along with the out-of-nowhere vocal stylings of our very own Ms. Lisa Wilson. Wow! Gold stars for days for this one. She's the "do-it-in-one-take" queen. We all looked like amateurs compared to her.
So, enough tooting everyone's horns. Go buy the "...Lovers" comp on Feb. 14, just so you can get your asses rocked by the ever-powerful Reading. {what??}. Go buy it anyway even if it IS rigged. ;) ha ha.
Go check out the
pictures of us in the studio...
Alright this is my first attempt at blogging. I hope I do it right. We have alot coming up in the next few weeks. This weekend we are going into the studio to record a few songs. We also have are first show on the 4th of November. But I think that stuff has already been covered so how's about I tell a story. This is the story of how reading came about. Flashback to early summer, we'll say late June. I was being very unproductive musically. The starling age(a band I had been playing in) had dismantled. It's not a touchy subject, no real scandal or anything everyone just kinda became involved in other projects and what not. The red-taled hawk was not flying, again for various reasons, and slowpants, well, was just slow I guess. Damian and myself had been goofing around recording stuff on his computer. Think perhaps a working man's neutral milk hotel with bad synthetic drum beats. I'm sorry I made you think about that. Anyway one night I was at a bar seeing a band and ran into Brad White(drummer, pine club). I was bitchin' about how I wasn't really doing much as far as music goes. A few days later his girlfriend Lisa called talking about how she really wanted to get a band going. I thought great, but I really had no idea what was going to happen. We arranged to "jam" one sunday afternoon. I was worried honestly. A little nervous that it might just not work and we would have nothing to play and we would just sit there and be awkward. I played some slowpants songs just for the hell of it and lisa accompanied nicely. We arranged to do it again and this time she busted out all these great keyboard parts. We even wrote a song that day(arranged, abstract). This could be very cool I thought to myself. I called Damian to see if he wanted to merge these little side projects we had going on and he agreed. It was all kinda starting to come together. But we still needed a drummer. That's where my boy Johnny came into the picture. I didn't know him. I heard about him. Brad kept telling me about this drummer that hadn't played with anyone in years but might be willing to try something new. Lisa talked to him and he was willing to give it a shot.
The first time I met him was the first night the four of us practiced together. I left that first night excited. The same way I've left practice every night since. Thanks for taking the time to let me tell a little story. Contact us with questions or comments here at the site and I'll see you November 4th. take it, mat
Big meeting with the Debauchery crew tonight.
The Pine Club,
Follow the Train,
The Merediths, Adventure and a secret guest who I don't think I should mention. It went well, we all just needed to know the scoop on the whole Debauchery thing. I think we've got something good going here.
We are going in the studio to record 3 songs on the 23rd this month. We're chomping at the bit to get something on tape. One song we're submitting to "Louisville is for lovers" comp, and the other 2 for a Debauchery Records sampler coming soon.
We've also got a solid date for our first "gig" ("Yes son, when you are a musician, a job is called a gig" --Homer). November 4th at Follow the Train's CD release party at Uncle Pleasant's. Be there.
Enough news for now. Keep checking back. We're always up to something good around here.
